/ Search & Selection

Hunter Healthcare's search & selection practice assists healthcare organisations in identifying and attracting non-executive, executive talent and senior clinical professionals.

/ Non-executive & Executive

Hunter Healthcare is the fastest-growing provider of executive search services to the healthcare sector, and for good reason.

We eschewed the database-centred, search-lite and transactional method that seems to have become the norm in today's fragmented and competitive recruitment industry. Instead, we listened to the market and built a business model that truly meets clients' needs: one that is led by people with industry knowledge, underpinned by innovative research and market intelligence, committed to high-quality due diligence, highly personalised and focused on long-term partnership working.

This response to the healthcare market's need has seen us flourish. Thanks to an enviable rate of repeat business and the significant momentum of new clients connecting with our approach, we have two well-established arms to our search business: a corporate board practice and a non-executive director practice. Following client requests to fill a perceived gap in the clinical space, we have also recently launched a clinical search practice.

Healthcare Expertise
We focus on one sector and one sector alone. We are committed to healthcare and operate right across this landscape to support local, regional and national requirements in both commissioning and provider settings. This channelled energy gives us optimal knowledge of the public and private healthcare markets.

The strength of our business lies not only in having a single focal point but in the diversity of our team. Between us, we have experience of working within a number of NHS providers and commissioners, the Department of Health and some of its arm's-length bodies. This experience has provided us with a vast network of contacts far more powerful than any database and, importantly, enables us to engage with clients and candidates in a meaningful way, using their language. In addition to our in-house expertise, our market knowledge is underwritten by the support and guidance of our advisory board of healthcare system leaders.

Research & intelligence
In light of the constantly evolving map of top talent in the healthcare sector, it is wholly insufficient to rely on a candidate database, advertising and a cursory search to achieve quality results. With each and every assignment, we start with a blank canvas and listen to the client's needs in order to inform our research – the bedrock of quality headhunting. Our highly specialised research team then applies its deep understanding of quantitative methodologies to explore exhaustively the candidate market and unearth candidates who would be missed by an over-reliance on conventional techniques.

Quality executive search needs robust research to be overlaid by a pipeline of market intelligence. At Hunter Healthcare, we have created a strong interface between our executive team and our interim practice, which provides the leading executive interims across the healthcare sector. This link is not the accepted wisdom in our industry – many firms do not even have an interim practice – but our access to this very senior resource is a powerful asset and has regularly provided valuable insights into the performance, capability, strategy and operating style of many trust boards. This intelligence has, in turn, allowed us to predict more confidently the professional and behavioural traits of candidates who will fit within a culture. We believe this is another strong market differentiator.

Delivery & service
We are totally committed to delivering the right result for our clients. We know, from years of recruitment experience, that success is best achieved by providing a rigorous and heavily tailored process and by laying the foundation for long-term, collaborative partnerships through honesty and openness. Our senior people will not just be at sales pitches and kick-off meetings – they will be working in earnest for you to deliver on agreed expectations. And it is with that level of integrity that we run our whole business.

"Hunter are by far the leading firm in executive resourcing in today's NHS. They seem to be the only firm that genuinely grasps what good looks like and install the right processes around candidate diligence and previous track record. I personally buy into their values of building long-lasting relationships, with the client and candidate being at the forefront of their priorities"
Jeremy Tozer,
Interim Chief Operating Officer,
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

"Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has used Hunter Healthcare in the past year to support the appointment of a number of very senior positions, including Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and Director of Change. We have found Hunter Healthcare to have been excellent and very responsive to our requirements. They have known exactly what is required by taking the time to fully understand the organisation, its culture and longer-term vision, ensuring the candidates presented at long- and shortlist stage are of high calibre and quality. We would seek to use Hunter Healthcare again should we have any further very senior posts to appoint into. In my opinion the team bring value for money and an efficient tailor-made service to the organisation that they are supporting. They are certainly raising the bar in NHS recruitment"
Isobel Clements,
Director of People, Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
"We have used Hunter Healthcare for the past four years and have been extremely impressed with their attitude and approach. It is refreshing to work with a growing company that has long-term relationships at heart. They really understand our requirements and they have supplied us with a significant number of high-calibre interims at all levels, getting the right candidate for our varied needs and being honest with us if they don’t have a natural fit is critical. They have always risen to the challenge. Integrity and honesty are important to our organisation and those values are reflected in the approach used by Hunter Healthcare. We have a great partnership; their senior team works hard at developing close working links with my colleagues and I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Hunter Healthcare"
