We are looking for an exceptional Deputy Director of Estates to support the development and creation of spaces and services that enhance the experience for the community that use them and enable the services that we deliver in pursuit of the Trust’s vision.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) is a major local employer, with a diverse workforce of over 5,000 staff providing emergency and non-emergency services to a growing population of around 744,000 across East Surrey, North-East West Sussex, and South Croydon. We’re exceptionally proud of our achievements, having been Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC in 2019 and winning the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards for Acute NHS Trust of the Year in 2021. Our vision is to pursue perfection in the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare that puts the people in our community first and we’re now looking for an exceptional Deputy Director of Estates to help lead the directorate. In return, we offer the successful candidate the opportunity to demonstrate technical expertise and leadership skills in a supportive and positively challenging environment; training and development to remain technically up to date; and a culture of continuous improvement. Against this backdrop, there is no better time to join us.

Our Deputy Director of Estates will be instrumental in leading the smooth and responsive operation of the East Surrey Hospital estate, enabling patient care delivery and a quality experience for patients, carers and Trust staff. As part of a supportive and engaged Estates team, you will provide professional advice and support to colleagues across the Trust on areas such as policy interpretation, legislative updates, direction on best practice and fully deputise for the Director of Estates & Facilities. You will be directly responsible on a day-to-day basis for all the Trust’s Electrical services and will ensure the strategic management and operational performance of the directorate.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role to shape and deliver spaces and services to achieve our strategic objectives of: deliver safe healthcare; a great place to work; be a valued partner; improve health outcomes and financial sustainability. As such, we are seeking someone who will demonstrate a commitment to providing exceptional non-clinical services across SASH. They will be able to support the Director and make effective and efficient use of sustainable resources to support our vision, whilst championing a safe working environment. The successful candidate will have experience working in large, complex organisations and a demonstrable track record of sound operational management. They will be comfortable collaborating with colleagues at all levels and able to contribute to the delivery of key performance targets using a values-driven approach.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and welcome applications from underrepresented groups. In recruiting to our Trust, we are committed to equality of opportunity for all. We believe that the best organisations are those that reflect the communities they serve. We especially welcome applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, LGBTQ+ communities, and from people with lived experience of disability.
