There has never been a more exciting time to join University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust! With a brand-new 5-year strategy, and the vision of ‘creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work’, UHMB presents a fantastic opportunity to be their new Director of Midwifery and build something incredibly special.

Our purpose is ‘to deliver compassionate care and the best possible results for the people of Morecambe Bay’ and this is something we’re working hard to deliver. Over the past few years, we’ve shown incredible improvements, having improved our CQC rating last year and showing significant improvements on the last NHS Staff Survey on 93 out of 100 questions. However, there is still much more to be done and we would love for you to join us on this journey.

At University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, our maternity services have come a long way. After our most recent CQC inspection in 2023, Karen Knapton, CQC Deputy Director of Operations in the North, said:

“When we inspected the trust, we were pleased to find the new leadership team was having a positive impact on care. We saw all staff, not just senior leaders, were also committed to making changes for the benefit of people using services and found improvements across all of the areas we visited as a result.”

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and compassionate midwifery leader to join us in the next step on the journey to developing an outstanding midwifery service. As Director of Midwifery, you will be responsible for the professional, strategic, and clinical leadership of the midwifery workforce across the Trust. Reporting to the Chief Nurse, you will work as part of the senior leadership team, with internal accountability and autonomy to lead, drive and coordinate programmes on improved outcomes for women and their babies.

We are looking for an inspirational leader and an outstanding role model who can support and drive improvements as a strong maternity advocate for babies and their families. You will need strong communication and influencing skills, alongside a comprehensive understanding of the challenging NHS environment and the national requirements pertaining to maternity service delivery. A commitment to improving maternity services through strong performance management skills are essential attributes for this role.
