Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious nursing leader to join NHS Coventry and Warwickshire ICB and NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICB as our Director of Nursing and Quality.

At a pivotal time for our newly clustered organisations, we are bringing together two established health and care systems to strengthen strategic commissioning, improve population health and tackle inequalities. This is a significant opportunity to shape nursing leadership, quality assurance and patient safety across a diverse and complex system.

Working closely with our Joint Chief Nursing Officer, you will provide visible, credible leadership across both ICBs, ensuring that quality, safety and patient experience remain central to commissioning decisions and system transformation.

We are seeking an influential, collaborative and values-driven leader who can build strong partnerships, navigate complexity and drive meaningful improvements in outcomes for the communities we serve.

Main Duties

As Director of Nursing and Quality, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of quality assurance, clinical governance, patient safety and regulatory compliance across both ICBs.

You will lead the development of robust quality assurance and improvement frameworks, ensuring commissioned services deliver safe, effective and person-centred care.

Key responsibilities include strengthening safeguarding arrangements, infection prevention and control, patient safety and incident management, alongside providing assurance to the Chief Nursing Officer and ICB Boards.

You will also provide strategic leadership and oversight of NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), ensuring effective governance and delivery across the cluster.

Working collaboratively with NHS providers, local authorities, regulators and wider partners, you will champion continuous improvement, professional standards and organisational learning.

Crucially, you will ensure that the voice of patients and communities informs commissioning, service transformation and improvements in quality and outcomes.

About You

We are looking for an accomplished senior clinical leader with a strong track record in quality assurance, clinical governance, patient safety and system-wide improvement.

You will bring experience of leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex quality risks and influencing stakeholders across organisational boundaries. You will understand the challenges facing integrated care systems and the importance of collaboration in delivering sustainable improvements.

You will be a registered Nurse, Midwife or Allied Health Professional with current professional registration and will demonstrate the credibility, strategic thinking and personal resilience required to succeed in this influential role.

Above all, you will be an inclusive and compassionate leader, committed to improving patient outcomes, reducing health inequalities and creating a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from groups currently underrepresented in senior NHS leadership.
