Non-Executive Directors (x3) – University Hospital Southampton (UHS)

At University Hospital Southampton (UHS) the communities we serve are diverse but our Board doesn’t yet fully reflect them. We think that matters. People who make decisions about public services should reflect the public those services exist for. Boards that bring together different backgrounds, identities and life experiences also make better decisions and earn more trust from patients and staff.

UHS is one of England’s largest teaching hospitals. We care for 1.9 million people across southern Hampshire and provide specialist services to more than 3.7 million. With a new Chief Executive and a new strategy, we’re appointing three Non-Executive Directors. Each will contribute across all of the Board’s work and bring experience in one of these areas:

1. Clinical: medicine, nursing, midwifery or another health profession
2. People and culture: workforce, organisational development or culture change, in any sector.
3. Commercial: strategic, commercial or transformation experience, particularly in research, innovation or digital.

You don’t need NHS experience – what matters most is independence of mind, curiosity, a willingness to ask difficult questions and an alignment with our values. We’ll give you a full induction and ongoing support.

We will be hosting a webinar on October 15th, which will give you a chance to hear directly from our Chair Jenni Douglas Todd and other members of the team and to learn a bit more about what we are looking for and what it feels like to sit on our Board.
