Last Friday 4th September, we were proud to once again welcome the current cohort of The Shuri Network‘s Digital Health Fellowship into our Hunter London office – the latest milestone in our ongoing partnership. Our Hunter Healthcare Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) delivered an insightful day of leadership conversations, career workshops and networking for the fellows, empowering them to connect over shared experiences and reflect on their own leadership journeys.

We kicked off the day with hands-on workshops led by our DDaT team, providing fellows with practical advice around how to accurately review job descriptions and utilise LinkedIn for success.

This was followed by a session from our keynote speaker Professor Patricia Miller OBE, who is a strong supporter of the work The Shuri Network does. Prof. Patricia spoke about the barriers she has experienced in her career and the importance of remaining focused on your own work, rather than the distractions that may surround it. She encourage the Shuri fellows to recognise their own value as well as their ‘why’, and to use this information to empower themselves to step outside of their comfort zone in pursuit of growth and development.

Later in the day fellows also had the privilege of hearing from guest speaker Peju The Spark, who encouraged the group to explore their own identity, purpose and the value of pausing. It was through these discussions that Peju reminded the fellows that periods of stillness can often be when the most important growth is happening, and not to be discouraged but to use these times to prioritise rest and reflection.

We then rounded off the day with another helpful workshop session from with our DDaT team, this time focused on how to best tailor their CVs for digital health roles – empowering the group with practical tools which can be taken into their next career step.

On the whole this was a fantastic day full of growth, reflection and energy – a privilege for our Hunter Healthcare team to be a part of. We send our thanks to Dr Shera Chok and the wider Shuri Network team for the chance to support the fantastic work they are doing, as well as our guest speakers Professor Patricia Miller OBE and Peju The Spark for sharing their knowledge and insights. Further thanks goes to the Shuri Network fellows who were in attendance – for the openness, engagement and enthusiasm they collectively showed which all contributed to the overall success of the day.

Hunter Healthcare remains committed to supporting The Shuri Network’s mission of supporting women from ethnic minority backgrounds to excel in the digital health space, and we are excited for the next opportunity to collaborate and contribute to the fantastic work they are doing. It is of paramount importance that the future of digital health leadership reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
