In Hampshire & The Isle of Wight there are many excellent health and care services, strong local government and vibrant, mixed communities. Through our demonstrated understanding of this context, in early 2022 Hunter Healthcare was commissioned to identify candidates for three key leadership roles on behalf of Hampshire & Isle of Wight’s Integrated Care Board, ahead of the organisation becoming a statutory body in July 2022.

The brief was that these new hires had to be people with the credibility and gravitas to operate effectively at the most senior level to ensure HIOW ICS achieves its vision of being regarded as an innovative and partnership-led system. In addition to being leaders of broad portfolios these three would also form part of the senior leadership team, so we needed to identify people who would be both best for the individual teams and best for the system collectively.

Finally, diversity of thought, approach, expertise, background, and experience would be as critical as diversity of gender and ethnicity for this was to be an Executive team of all the talents. To add to the complexity, we were dealing with numerous Executive stakeholders across the wider HIOW health system, including the regional Chief Nurse, representatives from local authority, primary care, mental health, community, and engaging Executives from local providers.

We were given only eight weeks in which to delivery a successful outcome. During this time, Hunter undertook an extensive search narrowing in on candidates whose specialisms supported the vision and values of the ICB.

Hunter successfully shortlisted diverse, experienced and credible candidates for each of the 3 roles. We arranged interview questions, presentation topics, stakeholder groups and facilitated stakeholder one-to-one conversations with candidates, followed by stakeholder feedback conversations to us. Finally, we supported interview panels with Executive panel members across numerous different interview dates.
