At Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, we’re proud to be different. Whether it’s for being one of the first NHS trusts in England to provide joined-up hospital, community and social care services, or being at the forefront of the NHS’s digital revolution with our human-led digital innovation programmes which are transforming the way we deliver care, we love being a leader in what we do. Providing high-quality, safe care really matters to us – and we’ve won awards for it too.

We have more than 6,000 dedicated people who are delivering compassionate health and social care in people’s homes, in our communities and across more than 15 sites in Torbay and South Devon, including our main acute hospital site at Torbay Hospital. Thanks to their hard work, we are one of the 20 best NHS hospital trusts in the country for cancer performance and one of just a handful to have met the faster diagnosis standard for more than 16 months. We’re a recipient of government funding that will enable us to embark on a once-in-a-generation hospital redevelopment, and our exciting plans to deliver our new electronic patient record by 2026 will be a game-changer, helping us to transform the way we share information, deliver care and improve efficiency across Devon.

We’re proud to be part of the national exemplar programme for the People Promise, which promotes the contribution of all people in our workplace and equality of opportunity to improve people’s experiences at work. We have a national reputation for our work to retain our midwifery workforce and take our responsibilities as an anchor organisation to grow our local workforce seriously. We are the first NHS trust in the South West to partner with the Open University to offer an exciting nursing degree which gives people in our community the opportunity to study closer to home and complete their clinical placements in our acute and community settings.

Like many trusts, however, we are managing demand for services and workforce pressures with the money and resources available to us; we are subject to the national oversight framework (NOF4) and are working with our partners across Devon to deliver a plan that will bring financial stability and improved performance.

We can’t deliver the change we need without our people. As our Chief People Officer, you will be leading the work to continue building an inclusive, compassionate culture – a culture that delivers our People Promise to everyone who works with us and supports us to provide the best quality, safest care we can to our communities, whilst keeping an eye on growing the workforce of the future and delivering the NHS’s Long Term Workforce Plan.

Reporting to our Chief Executive and a voting member of our board, this is a role in which you can make a massive contribution and help to create the positive conditions for our future success. With experience of working at or close to board level, you will be passionate about people and bring your energy and diverse skills to develop, implement and deliver our people and workforce strategy. You will be a team player who forges effective partnerships, and you will have the ability to influence and shape the people agenda with system partners to drive the change we need.
