Shaping the Future of Healthcare in Sussex: Non-Executive Director opportunities at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex)
At UHSussex, we serve a population of over 1.8 million people, providing an extensive range of acute, specialist, and community-based healthcare services across multiple sites. While significant progress has been made in strengthening our governance and performance framework, we are still in the early stages of unifying as one organisation—a journey driven by a mission to deliver excellent care every time. Alongside this, we are leading a number of transformative projects, including:
-
Implementing a Trust-wide Electronic Patient Record system.
-
Constructing a £200m state-of-the-art cancer centre.
-
Reconfiguring emergency care services at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
-
Delivering Same Day Emergency Care at Worthing and St Richard’s Hospitals.
These ambitious initiatives are set against a backdrop of significant operational and financial pressures. Demand for our services continues to outstrip capacity, while funding challenges require innovative solutions, including service reconfiguration and productivity improvements.
We are seeking three exceptional individuals to join our Board as Non-Executive Directors and:
-
Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the Board.
-
Shape strategic priorities, ensuring they are aligned with our mission and values.
-
Help foster a culture of inclusivity, learning, and accountability across the Trust.
Joining our Board means being part of a team that is shaping the Trust’s 2030 strategy—an ambitious plan that will tackle key challenges while maximising the opportunities afforded by our status as a university hospital, a major trauma and tertiary centre, and a hub for cutting-edge research and clinical education. Consequently, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
-
Audit and financial oversight, providing assurance on governance and resources.
-
Clinical innovation, driving excellence and forward-thinking approaches.
-
Successful organisational transformation in complex environments.
We value diversity in perspective, experience, and thought. Whether your expertise has been gained in healthcare, the private sector, public service, or the voluntary sector, your ability to lead, innovate, and inspire with compassion and the highest standards of personal conduct will be critical to our success.
