Technical Associate Director Overview
We are now looking to expand our consultancy team and are seeking talented individuals with deep expertise in business case development, particularly those who have delivered OBCs, supported FBCs and strategic investment documentation for NHS digital programmes.
As a Technical Associate Director within our Digital Health Consultancy, your focus will be on the end-to-end development of high-quality NHS investment cases and procurement documentation. You will:
-
Lead the authorship of NHS business cases, including Outline Business Cases (OBCs), Full Business Cases (FBCs), and Strategic Outline Cases (SOCs), aligned with the Five Case Model
-
Develop financial business cases, including investment appraisals, economic modelling, and affordability assessments, tailored to the trust’s strategic goals
-
Work closely with clinical, operational, digital, and finance leads to shape compelling and evidence-based cases for digital transformation investment (e.g. EPRs, infrastructure programmes)
-
Support NHS organisations with the preparation of tender documentation, evaluation criteria, and supporting technical schedules during procurement phases
-
Translate complex technical and financial concepts into accessible narratives for Board-level engagement and wider trust stakeholders
-
Operate as a trusted advisor – not managing teams, but working collaboratively across programme workstreams and supporting Programme Directors with business case content and deliverables
-
Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with NHS investment governance, and contribute to lessons learned and best-practice development across our consultancy
Experience Required
We are looking for someone who can bring:
-
Demonstrable experience writing NHS business cases, particularly OBCs and FBCs, with a strong understanding of the Five Case Model
-
Expertise in supporting the development of financial business cases, including investment analysis, cost-benefit justification, and stakeholder-aligned financial modelling
-
Familiarity with digital health programmes, ideally including EPRs, infrastructure, or large-scale transformation
-
Experience working alongside NHS stakeholders, understanding trust priorities, governance, and decision-making environments
-
Exposure to tender processes, including writing or advising on procurement documents, specifications, or commercial strategies
-
The ability to work collaboratively across programmes, building relationships with senior stakeholders and contributing confidently to Board discussions
-
Strong written communication and analytical skills, with the ability to produce polished, high-impact documentation
-
Consultancy experience is desirable but not essential – however, an ability to operate independently and adapt across varied NHS client environments is key
-
Familiarity with national business case approval policies and process, as well as frameworks and framework requirements
Person Specification
-
8+ years’ relevant experience in healthcare, consulting, digital transformation, technology implementation, or strategy
-
For technical roles: specialist knowledge in business case development, digital transformation, or procurement preferred
-
Management consulting experience advantageous but not essential
-
Proven track record of delivering NHS business cases aligned with the Five Case Model
-
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and creatively to diverse stakeholders
-
Strong relationship development capability, creating a positive impression on clients and colleagues alike
-
Skilled in influencing and negotiating, maintaining positive relationships in challenging situations
-
Demonstrable teamwork, leadership and ambition, driving results and improving outcomes
-
Strong analytical and entrepreneurial skills, with a focus on delivering innovative solutions
-
Ability to work at pace, influencing and challenging decisions when required
-
Meticulous attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in written work
-
Proactive and adaptable, willing to take on unfamiliar tasks and challenges

Degree-qualified (2:1 or above preferred) in any discipline
